How it works

Count characters, words, emoji, hashtags and links, and check your post against each platform limit. Free, no sign-up, and nothing leaves your browser.

  1. Type or paste your post.
  2. Choose the platform to check against and see what is over the limit.
  3. Trim the spaces or cut to the limit, then copy the text.

Questions

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Counting happens in your browser and your text never leaves your device.

How do you count characters?

The count follows what you see: an emoji, a flag or a letter with an accent counts once, even when it is stored as several code points. X, TikTok and Threads measure differently, and their rows say how.

How does X count a post?

X uses a weighted count out of 280. Most Latin letters, digits and punctuation count 1. Emoji and Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters count 2, and every link counts 23 however long it is. Only links that start with http://, https:// or www. are recognised here.

Why are some platforms missing?

A limit is listed only when we could read it on the platform's own help or developer page. Each row shows its source and the date it was checked. The Instagram, Threads and TikTok figures come from developer documentation, so the app itself may differ.

Where will "see more" cut my post?

None of these platforms documents where it truncates a post, so this tool does not guess. Put the most important words first.
